The People's Food Collective

Newest Program to tackle food insecurity and bring fresh groceries directly to those in need doorstep.

This project was funded by the "Beyond The Table" Grant from Central Carolina Community Foundation.

How Does it Work?

The People’s Food Collective was developed to fill in those gaps that lead to food insecurity. The People’s Food Collective will sponsor ten (10) families in the 29203 area with monthly grocery delivery from the Community Supported Grocery (CSG). The purpose is to introduce a resource that provides healthy options to the community that works within their means.

The People’s Food Collective will also hold a Food Access Health Fair and a Farm to Table event.  The Farm to Table event will act as a community gathering event to share more about food access initiatives in 29203 and offer freshly prepared vegan dishes with recipe cards by Chef Kadedra of the Grainn School. The Food Access Health Fair will have a fresh produce giveaway and tastings of healthy prepared foods also prepared by the Grainn School. There will also be a volunteer physician at the health fair to provide health information, take blood pressure readings, and possible glucose and cholesterol checks.

Our Partners

"Community Supported Grocery (CSG) is grassroots local food delivery on a mission to make our local food economy more equitable, convenient, and scalable. Since 2018, CSG has combined the local farmers' market with the convenience of subscription-based online ordering & home delivery. We haul, sort, curate, and deliver weekly bundles of local groceries with menus, recipes, producer info, & dietary restriction compliance. FOREAL. But why though? This alleviates market stressors for growers & producers while introducing their foods to untapped customers in our community. This entrepreneurial hustle ultimately provides us the ability to sustainably address community need. Meaning we can prioritize low-income/low-access neighbors that lack transportation and/or are experiencing general food insecurity."
